BULK MATERIALS TRANSPORT- GRAB FOR BULK HANDLING
Bulk products are stored and transported in large quantities, in its raw state, that is, without packaging. Being transported from the ports to the final destination in containers and trucks, these materials cannot be bagged and need a grab for handling bulk goods specifically for unloading, especially in port regions.
Each type of bulk transported has properties and needs that must be answered at the time of unloading and, therefore, for each specific type of material and situation there is a grab that minimizes waste and ensures productive efficiency.
The ideal bulk handling grab for each type of material is only defined after a study of the material and the crane used to unload it, meeting all needs and avoiding leaks and environmental damage in lifting and unloading the load.
Verstegen, a leader in the production of mechanical grabs operated by rope, is specialized in handling dry bulk, with a variety of models. The company has already delivered more than 10,000 grabs in more than 100 countries to stevedoring companies, port authorities, steel industries and power generation plants.
TYPES OF BULK:
-
COAL
Normally, coal for steel mills is handled in large volumes and therefore the grab for handling bulk needs to achieve high production rates.
-
ORE AND LIMESTONE
The handling of materials, such as iron ore and limestone, imposes additional demands on strength and durability of the grab for handling bulk, as they are hard and abrasive materials.
-
AGGREGATES
Aggregates fall into a broad category of coarse to medium-grained materials used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geokinetic aggregates.
- AGRIBULK
Materials such as grains, cereals, corn, wheat and sugar are very light and usually easy to penetrate, requiring a grab to handle bulk with low gross weight and large volumes.
-
FERTILIZERS AND PHOSPHATES
Most fertilizers are relatively light, with fine and free flow and special attention should be paid to the grab design for handling bulk, avoiding material loss and environmental pollution.
-
BIOMASS
Biomass, such as pellets and wood chips, are new materials in bulk, with specific properties that requires specific solutions in terms of production and dust control.
-
JUNK YARD
Where all types of scrap are found, such as steel, iron, shredded and heavy melting scrap.
